I provide bespoke, one-to-one tutoring for children aged 5 to 12, delivered in a flexible and accessible online format. As a qualified dyslexia specialist, I use evidence-based programmes endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association, including the Orton-Gillingham approach. This highly structured, multi-sensory, and systematic method has been developed over decades to effectively support children with dyslexia and other literacy-related difficulties.

Following an initial assessment, I develop a bespoke teaching plan tailored to each child’s learning profile. Lessons are designed to build confidence by addressing specific areas of need while nurturing the child’s strengths.

I use fun, engaging activities and games to help consolidate learning, ensuring that each session is effective and enjoyable. I truly believe that children who enjoy the learning process make exceptional progress.

 Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessments (Age 8 - 16)

In line with SASC (Specific Learning Difficulties Assessment Standards Committee) guidelines, I offer comprehensive Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessments for individuals aged 8 to 16.

These assessments are designed to determine whether a young person has dyslexia and to develop a clear understanding of their cognitive profile, including their strengths and areas where they may need additional support.

Following the assessment, a detailed written report will be provided. This report will outline any evidence of a dyslexic profile and include personalised recommendations to help support the individual in both their educational setting and everyday life. My goal is to ensure that each child is understood, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Dyslexia Assessment Screener (Age 5 - 8)

For children under the age of 8, a dyslexia assessment screener will identify if your child is ‘at risk’ of dyslexia. This assessment will determine the precise nature of your child's difficulties and how they can best be supported. If there is a moderate to high probability of dyslexia or dyslexic type difficulties, an evidence-based intervention before, or simultaneously with, the onset of formal reading instruction should begin before the child begins to experience failure. The earlier dyslexia or reading difficulties are identified and effectively addressed, the greater the chances that your child will be able to manage their difficulty and keep up with the school's curriculum.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) and Diagnostic Assessments

The Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is a UK government-funded scheme administered through Student Finance bodies to support students in higher education who have a disability or specific learning difference, including dyslexia. A post-16 diagnostic assessment carried out by a suitably qualified specialist assessor is required to support a DSA application.

My assessments:

  • Are conducted in line with current diagnostic guidelines

  • Include cognitive and attainment profiling

  • Provide clear evidence of need

  • Offer detailed, practical recommendations suitable for DSA purposes

  • Are written in a format recognised by higher education institutions

Following diagnosis, students may apply for DSA through their relevant Student Finance body. If approved, they will attend a separate needs assessment centre where appropriate support is determined.

If you are in Year 12, Year 13, at college, or already at university and require a diagnostic assessment for DSA, please contact me to discuss availability.

Adult Dyslexia Assessment – Understanding Your Learning Profile

Dyslexia is a specific learning difference that affects information processing. It is also frequently associated with strengths in creativity, problem-solving, big-picture thinking, and verbal reasoning.

An adult assessment provides:

  • A detailed cognitive profile

  • Identification of strengths and processing differences

  • Practical strategies tailored to your work and daily life

  • Formal documentation where required

Many adults describe the process as affirming and transformative.

If you would like to better understand how you learn and process information, I would be happy to discuss the assessment process with you.

Testimonials

Hear more from some of my happy clients!

Miss Alison taught both my sons not only how to read, but how to love reading and learning. My older son began lessons with Miss Alison when he was four, and within a few months, he became a prolific reader. His spelling is also almost always perfect and he tackles the most difficult of words with ease. Miss Alison has this magical gift with children - a jolly and heartwarming laugh which comforts and motivates children to do their best. Further, she understands each individual child's talents and works with each child independently even through a group class. Miss Alison has the kind of energy that makes everything around her better.
